Brief Information on Indonesia’s State Forest

چکیده
In general, the Indonesia official land use zone is divided into two main categories: state forest and non-state forest areas. State forest is land area that is designated by the government as “forest zone or areas” (kawasan hutan). Based on the recent Consensus of Forest Land Use (TGHK) and Provincial Spatial Plans (RTRWP), forestland in Indonesia today covers 112.5 million hectares, or almost 60% of its total land mass. This area is 31.4 million hectares less than the state forest areas were first designated in the early 1980s (see Table 1). The most common reason why state forest areas were declining is due to the area have been converted into large-scale oil palm or other government sponsored projects, such as transmigration. However, not all state forest areas are forested for the reasons that will be explained further in this brief document.

Transition to timber plantation based forestry in Indonesia: towards a feasible new policy
Indonesia’s forestry sector is in a dilemma due to the long-standing disparity between high processing capacity of forest industries and the limited supply of timber. The supply crunch has led to over-harvesting in order to meet demand and resulted in a decline of natural forests. The Indonesian government seeks to revive the forestry sector and secure its long term survival through a massive t...
متن کاملEffects of Central Decisions on Local Livelihoods in Indonesia: Potential Synergies Between the Programs of Transmigration and Industrial Forest Conversion
In addition to well-documented negative effects (e.g., environmental degradation and ethnic conflict) Indonesia’s central government programs of transmigration and industrial forest management subvert indigenous rights (even if unintentionally) through appropriation of forested land and migrant subsidies. Although central control can be an effective strategy for resource management, Indonesia’s...
متن کاملThe Impact of Rubber on the Forest Landscape in Borneo
Rubber is the most widespread smallholder tree crop in South-East Asia. Although initially large estates planted the bulk of the region’s rubber, smallholders soon captured most of the production. Currently, Indonesia’s rubber plantations cover 3.4 million ha, of which smallholders account for more than 75% (BPS, 1999). In peninsular Malaysia, the area in rubber has declined since the 1970s, bu...

Fire, as a natural ecological disturbance factor in forest, this study located in the Marivan region, Northern Zagros forest, and western Iranian state of Kurdistan. In each burned and unburned area 30 circle sample plot (1000 m2) were collected by randomized–systematic method in the 100×200 m net (in total 60 plots). In every sample plot the kind of species, number of tree, the heig...
